Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Thursday the State Department has revoked 300 or more student visas, as the White House increasingly targets foreign-born students whose main transgression seems to be activism.Rubio warned that the administration was looking out for “these lunatics.” Around the country, scholars have been picked up, in some cases by masked immigration agents, and held in detention centers, sometimes a thousand miles from their homes with little warning and often with few details about why they were being detained. “It might be more than 300 at this point. We do it every day. Every time I find one of these lunatics, I take away their visas,”
Once situated lawfully in the United States, aliens enjoy First Amendment rights. As Justice Francis W. Murphy described the law in his  concurrence in Bridges v. Wixon (1945), “the Bill of Rights is a futile authority for the alien seeking admission for the first time to these shores. But once an alien lawfully enters and resides in this country he becomes invested with the rights guaranteed by the Constitution to all people within our borders.”
The First Amendment guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition. It forbids Congress from both promoting one religion over others and also restricting an individual’s religious practices. It guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely. It also guarantees the right of citizens to assemble peaceably and to petition their government.
Freedom of Speech / Freedom of the Press
The most basic component of freedom of expression is the right to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech may be exercised in a direct (words) or a symbolic (actions) way. Freedom of speech is recognized as a human right under article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights . The right to freedom of speech allows individuals to express themselves without government interference or regulation . The Supreme Court requires the government to provide substantial justification for interference with the right of free speech when it attempts to regulate the content of the speech. Generally, a person cannot be held liable , either criminally or civilly for anything written or spoken about a person or topic, so long as it is truthful or based on an honest opinion and such statements.
A less stringent test is applied for content-neutral legislation. The Supreme Court has also recognized that the government may prohibit some speech that may cause a breach of the peace or cause violence. For more unprotected and less protected categories of speech see advocacy of illegal action , fighting words , commercial speech , and obscenity . The right to free speech includes other mediums of expression that communicate a message. The level of protection speech receives also depends on the forum in which it takes place.
Despite the popular misunderstanding, the right to freedom of the press guaranteed by the First Amendment is not very different from the right to freedom of speech. It allows an individual to express themselves through publication and dissemination. It is part of the constitutional protection of freedom of expression. It does not afford members of the media any special rights or privileges not afforded to citizens in general.
Right to Assemble / Right to Petition
The right to assemble allows people to gather for peaceful and lawful purposes. Implicit within this right is the right to association and belief. The Supreme Court has expressly recognized that a right to freedom of association and belief is implicit in the First , Fifth , and Fourteenth Amendments. Freedom of assembly is recognized as a human right under article 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights . This implicit right is limited to the right to associate for First Amendment purposes. It does not include a right of social association. The government may prohibit people from knowingly associating with groups that engage in and promote illegal activities. The right to associate also prohibits the government from requiring a group to register or disclose its members or from denying government benefits on the basis of an individual's current or past membership in a particular group. There are exceptions to this rule where the Court finds that governmental interests in disclosure/registration outweigh interference with First Amendment rights. The government may also, generally, not compel individuals to express themselves, hold certain beliefs, or belong to particular associations or groups.
The right to petition the government for a redress of grievances guarantees people the right to ask the government to provide relief for a wrong through litigation or other governmental action. It works with the right of assembly by allowing people to join together and seek change from the government.

President Donald Trump is extending his efforts to influence American cultural and artistic institutions to the Smithsonian Institution – a sprawling organization that encompasses the National Zoo and a collection of museums that anchor tourism in the nation’s capital. In an executive order signed Thursday night, Trump put Vice President JD Vance in charge of stopping government spending on “exhibits or programs that degrade shared American values, divide Americans based on race, or promote programs or ideologies inconsistent with Federal law and policy.” Vance serves on the Smithsonian’s Board of Regents. “Once widely respected as a symbol of American excellence and a global icon of cultural achievement, the Smithsonian Institution has, in recent years, come under the influence of a divisive, race-centered ideology,” the order reads. “This shift has promoted narratives that portray American and Western values as inherently harmful and oppressive.”  ... to direct the museums to soften or distort forthright discussions about the history and impact of racism in the United States and follows similar orders that seek to exert the president’s will over law firms and educational institutions. Earlier this month, the president also signed an order directing the Institution of Museum and Library Services, among several other government entities, to be “eliminated to the maximum extent consistent with applicable law.” The IMLS supports museums and libraries in all 50 states.

Stocks faltered Friday after the Federal Reserve’s favored inflation metric remained stubbornly high in February, and as President Donald тrump’s tariffs throw a new curveball to policymakers. Wall Street responded to the month-over-month inflation uptick negatively, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 1.8%, or about 715 points, while the S&P 500 and tech-heavy Nasdaq dropped 2% and 2.7%, respectively. Among the hardest hit names were shares of big technology companies thought to be more vulnerable to a rockier economy, as shares of Apple, Amazon, Google and Microsoft all fell more than 2.6%.

Donald Trump can - for now - remove Democratic members from two federal labor boards, a U.S. appeals court ruled on Friday, handing the Republican president a victory in his efforts to bring independent federal agencies under his control.
In a 114-page order, Judge Justin R. Walker, a Trump appointee, said “the people elected the President to enforce the nation’s laws, and a stay serves that purpose by allowing the people’s chosen officer to control the executive branch.”At stake is whether Trump had the authority to fire Gwynne Wilcox, a member of the National Labor Relations Board, and Cathy A. Harris, the chair of the federal Merit Systems Protection Board. The NLRB is tasked with overseeing laws protecting workers’ rights and union elections nationwide, while the MSPB defends federal government workers against political discrimination. Both are Biden appointees whose terms were set to expire in 2028. Wilcox and Harris could appeal Friday’s order, or they could wait for the court to rule later on the merits of their case seeking to block Trump’s move. The Trump Administration’s unprecedented removal of Gwynne Wilcox defies 90 years of Supreme Court precedent protecting the independence of critical government agencies," said Deepak Gupta, the lawyer representing Wilcox in a statement Friday. “We are confident in our case and look forward to presenting our arguments in court.”These cases also spotlight Trump’s flurry of firings of federal officials during his early weeks in office, including two Federal Trade Commission commissioners. The administration has removed agency watchdogs, dismissed senior prosecutors and ethics officials at the Justice Department, and targeted other agencies with large-scale layoffs.
The Justice Department submitted multiple filings with the Supreme Court that accused federal judges of abusing their constitutional powers, while lower courts criticized the Trump administration’s expansive view of presidential power. The administration asked the high court to intervene in three cases it argues are hampering President Donald Trump's agenda, including one where it’s been ordered to rehire thousands of dismissed federal workers.
President Donald Trump's administration is terminating grants for two clean energy projects and roughly 300 others clean energy projects funded by the Department of Energy are in jeopardy as the president prioritizes fossil fuels. The list, obtained by the AP, includes wind, solar, battery storage and electric vehicle infrastructure projects. It includes funding to help heavy industries transition away from fossil fuels and funding to decarbonize buildings. Many projects were funded through the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law Biden signed in 2021. The department wrote that it had determined the awards do not meet the administration's objectives. President Donald Trump declared an energy emergency early in his term and is working to speed up fossil fuel development, which he sums up as “drill, baby, drill.”
(Biden is not “waging war” on American energy. He’s boosting it. American oil production has reached its largest volume in recorded history—more than 13.2 million barrels per day in October, official figures show)- не было с этим проблем.
